The Eight Wheeler

The Eight Wheeler: "Russian eight wheels car

Eight wheelers could be a good solution for Russian terrain roads and you still can meet some of the concepts from the Soviet past on the roads.

They had a flat bottom and the additional four wheels mounted higher than the first four ones so that in case you get stuck too deep then the new pair of axes get into play towing the car out the deep mud.

For some reason those stayed only in concept mode and like this one bare the old white-on-black plates, those give clue that it comes back from seventies or early eighties, but is still used.

Guys collecting old Soviet transportation relics can pay a lot for one of those, even if it doesn't come from any popular brand but was made by some garage genius with his hands alone.

Artists, removing the Stalin Monument in Gori ? What do you think ?

From Art Club Caucasus works by various artists

There is a new discussion going on in Georgia to remove the Stalin monument in his home town Gori from the main place of the town. A related article which advocates the clearance of the Soviet leader you can find on Georgia Today here: "Bidding goodbye to Stalin’s heavy hand on Georgian psyche"

While I noticed many voices off the younger Georgians supporting the removal at sites like Facebook of course many other and often older Gori inhabitants do not like that idea very much.

Here is a recent stencil seen on a wall in Rustavi, probably by a young sprayer/artist. Is this more a critic or a support or just a zero statement with no special meaning ?

From Art Club Caucasus works by various artists

Before we pull it, are there any questions we should ask us before ? Like some as these:

- Is there a better thing than Stalin to be put in the center of Gori, if yes, what ?

- Should it get removed and destroyed (shipped as scrap to Turkey or China) or just replaced to another location ?

- Who was the artist of that sculpture/ensemble ? Should the artist have a decision on this question ?

- Wouldn't somehow removing Stalin in Gori also remove the memory about the Millions of his Victims ?

- Was the Stalin phenomena ever really seriously researched and analyzed yet ? Where can I read about it ?

- Would the removal in 100 years possibly regretted ?

- What should be placed there after the cleansing ?

- Should/could other Stalin monuments throughout Georgia remain or replaced ?

and the most important question to you ARTIST could be

what should be put on Stalin's place in the center of Gori ?
Do you have other question regarding Stalins removal ? --> Comment !

"I believe that we should approach (...) from a different perspective, a different “view” from both Modernist painting which relies on a traditional figure ground relationship, and Postmodernism which relies on a collage billboard approach."

Pressemitteilung - PDF
